We are raising money for a school for blind and visually impaired pupils in Buigiri, Tanzania, after visiting and seeing how much help is needed.
The school supports pupils of all ages with different levels of sight loss, including pupils who are completely blind, have cataracts, have had their eyes removed or have other visual impairments. Over 120 pupils attend the school, with 76 boarding there. The school relies on funding from the village church solely.
Their biggest struggle is being able to afford the basics. Food is the main priority, along with cooking oil and gas so they can prepare meals for the pupils. They also need 26 chairs for a classroom and money for electricity to see them through to the end of term.
During our visit, we also saw a lack of mattresses and bedding, old and ripped school uniforms, missing ceilings and uneven flooring that creates trip hazards. For pupils who cannot see or have limited vision, having safe floors to walk on is especially important.
We would like to raise money to provide basic essentials such as food, clean water, clothing, mattresses and bedding, helping make sure the pupils are fed, comfortable and have what they need day to day.
Depending on how much we raise, we would also love to get a team of contractors in to level the flooring, fit ceilings, decorate the buildings and replace missing roof tiles. We understand the buildings have had very little work since the school opened in the 1950s, and after around 70 years, you can really see how much they are deteriorating.
Our first priority will be food and the most urgent everyday essentials, with any further funds going towards improving the buildings and making the school safer for the pupils.
Any donation, no matter how small, would be so appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please share this page to help us reach more people.
Thank you for helping us support the pupils at Buigiri and give them the basic essentials that everyone deserves.
Lots of Love,
