A virtual walk from the West Bank to Gaza

Starting on Nakba Day, 15 May, over one month I will aim to walk a total of 107 km, the equivalent of the distance between the West Bank and Gaza.

Of course, Palestinians cannot travel freely between the disconnected parts of occupied Palestine. Each day, I will post on my Instagram to raise awareness of the 77 years of killing, occupation, apartheid, dispossession and now genocide since the Nakba. Please follow me: @marocophile

Many of us feel completely powerless in the face of the appalling plight of Palestinians in the face of the silence and complicity of the people - in our governments, parliaments and media. As long as the Israeli government is not challenged to stop its onslaught of innocent Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and to permit aid to enter the Gaza Strip, there seems little means to support individual Palestinians and their families.

For this reason, I choose to boycott, to raise awareness of the Palestinian fight for liberation and to support MAP, who are experienced, credible and on the ground, helping however they can as the healthcare system disintegrates around them under deliberate Israeli attack. Their staff, volunteers and their families take enormous risk to help local people - medical and aid workers have been deliberately targeted by the Israeli Occupation Forces - and for that I have enormous respect and humility. Supporting MAP is the least any of us can do, as long as we ourselves are able. I am aiming for £10 per km.

More information about Medical Aid for Palestinians: Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. They provide immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system.

Please note: I was unable to register for the official Stride for Palestine campaign, therefore this is a solidarity fundraiser for the same cause.
