Hello everyone and thank you for reaching this page. My name is Whitney, and I am the inherited daughter of Scott Ishie, an Army Veteran, former Railroader, truck driver, loving and dedicated husband, father, son, and brother, a fun-loving grandfather, and a true friend. He is a hard-working outdoorsman, a talented artist, an avid gardener, and so much more. My family is coordinating this fundraiser on Scott's behalf and all donations will go directly to his medical and living expenses.
In the early morning hours of Monday, April 7th, Scott woke his wife up and they rushed to the hospital. After blood work and multiple tests, including a CT scan of his brain, chest, and abdomen, we received the unexpected news that Scott has cancer. The doctors found an abundance of masses throughout Scott's stomach, as well as two large obstructions in his small intestines, a nodule on his lung, and an unusual amount of fluid built up in his abdomen. The masses in his stomach are what they call Carcinomatosis. A metastatic cancer, Carcinomatosis is a sign that cancer is in the advanced stages and likely cannot be cured. In Scott's situation, the cancer appears to have spread through the lining of his abdomen. Although risky, the doctors deemed it necessary to do surgery immediately and remove the blockages. During surgery, the doctors were also able to drain the fluid, resect part of his intestine (where they found additional cancer), and take samples of various tissues to send to pathology. We are currently awaiting those results so that we can confirm what type of cancer we are fighting and move forward with treatment options. He is scheduled to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy tomorrow so that the doctors can evaluate his stomach, pancreas, and colon, and we are discussing a Chemo port implantation later in the week. As Scott is an otherwise healthy 56-year-old, the Oncologist is confident that his cancer is still very treatable.
As you can imagine, Scott is unable to work right now; with no short/long-term disability and Marketplace health insurance, we all know that living and medical expenses will add up quickly. While Scott focuses on treatment and healing, these funds will help ease that burden, ensuring that his wife, Cheri, has the support she needs to be his caregiver during this difficult time. We are so thankful for your consideration and grateful for any amount that you can give. If you can't donate at this time, we simply ask that you share this link to help rally support. We appreciate all the prayers and ask that you keep them coming. While we don't always understand, we trust God's plan and are holding on to that hope.
