A Van for Kam: Keeping Him Safe and Mobile

Meet the Radder Family-- Emmy, Scott and their precious son, Kam.

The Radder's life was dramatically changed when at four months old their son suffered a cardiac arrest, which landed him at Seattle Children's Hospital. It was there that he was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a VERY rare neurological disorder.

When we say very rare, we mean it has an occurrence of one in a MILLLION in little boys. They were told he would only live to 1-3 years old, and would face many obstacles. Rett Syndrome has caused severe respiratory challenges for Kam resulting in him needing to be on oxygen almost 24 hours per day. He is only disconnected when he is moved to their car, or for a quick bath as needed. He also is only fed via feeding tube, has regular seizures, takes multiple meds many times throughout the day and has countless therapies, clinic visits and blood draws. He has spent a quarter of his life hospitalized, largely due to two cardiac arrests, and a UTI which caused sepsis in 2024. He almost passed away last Thanksgiving --2024. He receives hospice care in-home.

The beautiful thing about the Radder family, is they have never lost hope. They have never stopped fighting for Kam, and the life he deserves. Emmy quit her job upon Kam's diagnosis to be able to be his full-time caregiver, while Scott has remained at his full-time job to make sure his family has a roof over their heads. This journey has not been easy, and from the outside looking in they are truly an inspiration for what it means to sacrifice and to do it with joy. Their love for Kam has moved mountains for this little boy.

The Radder's are now expecting their second son! WOOHOO!! With this, comes a slew of new challenges, the biggest of which is securing a vehicle that every member of their family can fit into. Right now, their car will not fit all four of their family members, a nurse, and all of Kam's medical equipment needs. An ADAPTIVE VAN is their biggest need. This would allow Kam's medical-grade stroller to be strapped in, he wouldn't need to be disconnected from oxygen, and it give plenty of room for all of his supplies, Emmy, Scott and their new baby too.

That's our big ask -- we are raising funds for them to be able to get this van so their family can leave their home at one time. Thanks for your donations, prayers and love for this family. They deserve the world.
