A Van for Amelia
Donation protected
Because of her indomitable spirit, the last thing Amelia Borg Wilcox would want to be identified as, is “victim.” Nevertheless, a spinal cord injury she received at age 3 has recently robbed her permanently of the use of her legs (after 25 surgeries!). Not one to be disheartened, she has completed a degree, is working as a social worker, and is happily married.
Amelia desperately needs a wheelchair accessible van so she can get to work and manage her errands on her own. She works to help children who are abused or neglected and she is a rock-star at her job—they really need her! Researching public transportation options has been very discouraging. The total cost of an accessible van is over $70,000. Public funding sources will only cover part of that amount. Our goal is to raise the $35,000 that will account for the cost of the accommodations and alterations to help Amelia enter her own vehicle and drive independently.
Because Amelia is who she is, she would never ask for herself, which is why we, her family, are asking on her behalf. We love our Mel and want to support her as she continues to conquer life’s challenges!
