On the evening of January 16, while vacationing with his family in Turks and Caicos, Shawn’s battle with mental illness presented with a scream. After an attempt to end his battle, Shawn was rushed to Cheshire hospital, where he was placed on ventilator. While the island provided amazing care for Shawn, they informed the family that they did not have the resources to sustain his care and that he would need to be sent back to the states via Trinity Air Ambulance. The family was responsible for securing a flight and planning all of the coordination of care needed to get Shawn from Turks and Caicos back to home, while preventing any further concerns to his already fragile condition.

Shawn successfully arrived back in the states this weekend and is currently in the ICU at Upstate. At this time, he is battling kidney failure and pneumonia which requires him to remain on a vent with a feeding tube with the need for dialysis unknown. Shawn’s brain functionality is being monitored by MRI screenings.

While Shawn fights for his life, his family is fighting to afford the care he needs. Shawn’s stay at the Cheshire hospital resulted in a $7000 medical bill. The family was then required to pay the full cost of the Air Ambulance prior to Shawn being able to leave the island. With the family emptying all funds to cover a $95,000 flight, they were faced with placing this on a credit card that must be paid by February 23rd. Shawn being the main provider, and account holder of all finances has left Danielle with minimal resources and no access to funds.

In addition to the cost of the Air Ambulance, the hospital bills are growing by the minute, on top of the routine costs that come with owning a home and being a parent.

Shawn has been the husband of Danielle for the last 17 years. He is the dad of three children: Dawson, Jackson, and Kendyll. He is a brother, a son, and an uncle to those who love him very much.
