A Tulsa Neighbor Needs You: Larry's Recovery Fund

My name is Kari "Da Leigh" Townsley, and I'm reaching out to you today with the story of Larry Roberts, a 63-year-old native of our very own Tulsa. For the past decade, Larry has faced the harsh reality of homelessness, navigating life on the streets of the city he calls home.
Recently, Larry endured a painful setback. He broke his hip and underwent surgery at Saint Francis Hospital, a procedure meant to bring healing and a chance to regain his mobility. However, what followed was an act of unimaginable cruelty. Just two days after his surgery, Larry was discharged by Saint Francis Hospital and left on the sidewalk outside the Iron Gate Food Pantry by EMSA.
(On April 18th I got more information from Larry and apparently once he was discharged from Saint Francis he sat in the lobby as he couldn't walk, they told him he had to leave and he refused so five security guards came. Eventually EMSA showed up and gave him a ride to Iron Gate Food Pantry, at his request, and gave him a large box of groceries, but he was still unable to move from the spot he was left in.)
Imagine lying helpless on the concrete, unable to move from the waist down, just days after major surgery. For days, Larry remained there, unable to reach a restroom or make his way into the pantry for the daily meal. He was vulnerable, in pain, and utterly alone.
When I discovered Larry in this desperate situation, my heart broke. I contacted LIFE Senior Services, hoping for immediate assistance, but was told there were no available resources and that I should contact Adult Protective Services instead. In the meantime, I couldn't stand by and do nothing. I brought Larry food and water, spending time with him and listening to his story. Despite his circumstances, Larry's spirit remained resilient.
Later that day, thanks to the intervention of Adult Protective Services, Larry was finally admitted to Hillcrest Hospital. There, he received the care and dignity he deserved, including a simple but profound act of kindness – a much-needed sponge bath.
During our time together, Larry has shared his story with me and given his permission to reach out to our community for help. He dreams of having basic necessities that most of us take for granted: clean socks and underwear, a phone to connect with the world and potential resources, and enough food to nourish his body as he recovers.
That's why I've started this GoFundMe campaign for Larry. Every contribution, no matter the size, will directly impact his life, providing him with the immediate comfort and support he desperately needs. Your generosity will help Larry get back on his feet, both literally and figuratively. It will offer him a glimmer of hope and show him that our Tulsa community cares.
Please consider donating to help Larry on his journey to recovery and stability. Let's show this Tulsa man that he is not forgotten. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
