My name is Emily, and I am raising money to help one of the most wonderful women I know to get money to buy a used van. She runs a magical home daycare in Boston and has touched the lives of so many children—hundreds at this point—including my daughter and nephew. She takes care of others' children as if they were her own, and I feel so lucky to have her as part of our lives.
She’s taught me how to be a better parent, to trust the voice inside myself, to be kind to myself, and how to help each of our children flourish in their own unique way. And I believe that other parents who have entrusted her with their children would say the same. (In fact, before hitting "publish" on this post, I did run it by other parents who confirmed such is the case.)
You’ll see a white dove on her head in the picture below. She was trying to get the children to laugh when they were having a grumpy time, and it just sort of sums up her wonderfully eccentric, warm, and sincere personality that can't always be captured in words.
She is in her 70s, slightly disabled and having no close family of her own, her family (beyond the kids she cares for) are in her church and community. Her car enables her to visit these places and people who bring her joy and it has been so hard to watch her not be able to partake in the things that fill her cup up when she empties it for the children she cares for.
These funds will be used towards the purchase of used van as she also uses the van to drive the kids to the local farm, arboretum, and other local organizations as well as carry her companion dogs to their favorite parks.
I’ve attached a picture of the kids at a local polling place where she takes them every year on voting day to teach them about their civic duty (and even brings them into the voting booth with her!
She is truly a special woman and I wish to be able to give back to her in a way she has given to so many families over the past 40+ years.
I've also shared a picture of her with our family, my sister's family, and the other caregiver at the daycare after a delightful fall dinner at our house.
Here are a few helpful to-knows:
- This fundraiser is a surprise, so please don't tell her:)
- Given her van may not survive another winter, I hope that we can secure the funds by Feb 2023 but if not, we may extend it. Exact giving date TBD.
- No matter how much we raise, it will be gifted to her via a check along with a card that includes the names of all donors, regardless of amount given.
- Closer to the giving date, I will also send out a link to record a video message if you'd like to send a note that way to her.
- We are grateful for any amount you are able to give as we know each season of life pulls you and your budget in different directions
- For those who are able to give $200 or more, I will send you a special box of curated goodies, including a jar of my world-famous* toasted coconut almond butter as a thank you.
Thank you so, so, so much in advance for your support.
*world-famous may be a bit of an exaggeration but it has been featured on a well-know food site, and no one who has received it has ever, ever complained
Ms. Maggie is our daughter's daycare provider. We are so excited to gift her a check spring 2023 to support the purchase of a new van for her.
