Empower a Canadian Paralympic Gold Medalist: Help Him Acquire a New Artificial Leg
Dear Friends, Supporters, and Kind-hearted Individuals,
We have an incredible opportunity to make a life-changing difference in the journey of a true Canadian hero. Today, we are reaching out to you to help support Paul Rosen, a remarkable individual who has defied all odds and brought pride and glory to our nation as a gold medal-winning Paralympic athlete.
Paul has triumphed over adversity, demonstrating unparalleled strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. Despite facing incredible challenges, he has become a beacon of inspiration for countless individuals around the world. Today, we have the privilege to join hands and give back to someone who has given so much.
But Paul’s story has not always been bright and sunny. There have been very dark times that presented tremendous adversity for Paul and not of his own doing. It began with a serious hockey injury to his leg and as several further injuries to the knee continued, it all got worse. Finally, having developed both infection of the knee and resistance to antibiotics, the last and only option to save his life was amputation. Healing and adapting were just 2 of the many challenges he now faced. He made a positive choice in terms of the direction his life was going to take by trying out for the Canadian Men’s Paralympic Sledge Hockey team. That shows real courage and guess what, he made it. Even playing a position he had never played in his life before, Goalie. What an accomplishment and source of inspiration to so many disabled individuals!
That was the sunny part, but once his career was over in 2010 and retirement presented itself, Paul’s life slowly began to go downhill. For many reasons, there was depression, self-isolation, and of course, drug use. The pain that an amputee endures, both real and phantom is constant and extremely difficult to cope with. Painkillers are a necessity. But who knew back then how addictive and dangerous Opiates were? Paul never intended to become an addict. All he wanted was to feel less pain, less often.
Well, this is where the sun begins to shine again and the dark days fade. Despite all of the physical and mental health issues he has faced, including a Jan 30 2019 suicide attempt, Paul has overcome huge challenges to become clean and sober now for the last 15 months. Again, courage, determination, and inspiration shine forth from this exceptional individual.
Now he is using his vast experience with addiction and depression to counsel others in need of mental health advice. He is reinventing himself by using his Motivational Speaker skills to reach those who need to hear his strong words of recovery and healing. He has even written a book intended to inspire others to never give up.
Unfortunately, Paul is in urgent need of a new artificial leg. As we know, specialized prosthetics come at a significant cost. It’s not uncommon for these devices to cost in the range of $85K to $100K. You might be wondering why Paul desperately needs a new leg as he is shown in many photos looking pretty good with his artificial leg. This is true but it does not tell the whole story. The fact is that the current leg is more than 15 years old, and the known life expectancy of this prosthetic is approximately 8 – 10 years. The result of this circumstance of how old the leg is that it malfunctions, randomly, quite often. The consequences of this happening have caused Paul to collapse and fall on many occasions. These falls in turn have caused significant injuries to several parts of his body, especially his hip, which recently required replacement surgery.
Our goal is to raise $20,000.00 to ensure his continued mobility, independence, and ability to pursue his dreams which include continuing to work with challenged people who need Mental Health assistance. A further dream would be to establish a Foundation specifically to assist those dealing with all types of disabilities and mental health challenges.
With your generous support, we can provide Paul with the latest technological advancements in prosthetics, empowering him and inspiring future generations of athletes and other disabled individuals. Your generous donations will go directly towards acquiring the necessary equipment, fittings, and ongoing support to ensure a seamless transition to this new phase of Paul’s journey.
Together, we can make a tangible impact and be a part of something greater than ourselves. Let's rally around this Canadian Paralympic hero, ensuring that he has the tools to conquer new heights and achieve even greater milestones.
Join us in supporting Paul Rosen on this incredible journey by donating to our fundraising campaign. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in his life. Additionally, please help us spread the word by sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and networks.
Let's unite as a community and show our unwavering support for this incredible man who has brought honor and glory to our country and yet has also faced and overcome incredible challenges related to substance abuse and addiction. Together, we can make dreams a reality and help Paul reach new heights of self-confidence, self-respect, and success.
Thank you for your generosity, compassion and for being a champion of dreams.
Sincerely,
Jimmy Avrams
