I grew up in Belfast’s shadow — a world of bulletproof glass, midnight knocks, and men whose faces you never saw.

My family lived under threat, due to their high ranking circles within a side, caught between politics and survival.

As a child, I thought that was normal. Fear was part of the air we breathed.

Now, decades later, I’m stepping back into those memories to create a documentary called “A Troubled Land.”

It’s a personal story — told anonymously — about what it was really like to grow up inside the conflict, and what happens when the next generation forgets it ever happened.

Many young people in Northern Ireland today know little or nothing about The Troubles.

It’s fading from classrooms, and from conversations.

That silence worries me — because forgetting is dangerous.

This project is filmed, edited, and produced by me alone. I’m using my own equipment and footage gathered over years, but I need help to finish it properly — to record interviews, travel, mix sound, and prepare it for festivals and broadcasters like BBC NI and RTÉ.

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps tell this story the right way — before the past disappears completely.

I’m not telling this story to be seen — I’m telling it so it’s not forgotten.
