Scout Has Crossed the Rainbow Bridge
Hi, I'm Kristy, Brandy's sister and owner of Intern Gus. I'm usually a silent face behind the scenes at Dog Friendly SLC, but today I wanted to step up and do something special for Brandy and for Scout.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share that Scout, the golden retriever behind Dog Friendly SLC, crossed the rainbow bridge on 3/30/26.
Scout wasn't just a dog. He was a community. He was also, if we're being honest, a full blown celebrity and he knew it. He walked into every park, every trail, every gathering like he was fully aware that people had been waiting for him. And the thing is, they had. He never met a stranger, never passed up a chance to say hello, and operated under the very firm belief that obviously everyone wanted to pet him. He was usually right.
Since the very first day Dog Friendly SLC launched, Scout was there, nose first, ready to explore every corner of this city we all love. He made strangers feel like neighbors. Brandy has poured her heart into Dog Friendly SLC and Scout was right there with her every step of the way, charming everyone he met. Salt Lake City's dog community is what it is in part because of both of them.
A Memorial Worthy of a Celebrity
We are exploring ways to honor Scout's memory in a permanent, public way. Something that reflects the joy he brought to this community. That might look like a mural, a statue, or another kind of tribute somewhere dogs and their people gather. We don't have every detail figured out yet, and honestly that feels right. Scout always led the way, so we'll follow his lead one last time.
If you feel moved to contribute, we are so grateful. No pressure at all, these are tough times for everyone, and the love and support already felt from this community means everything.
For those who knew Scout, spotted him on a patio, got the full celebrity greeting, or followed along on his adventures over the years, thank you. He was loved, he was celebrated, and he absolutely knew it.
Enjoy the endless frisbee, all the swim time, and pets from all the fans in Barbie Land, Scouty. You will be forever missed.
