Honoring the Life of Joseph Madden:
It is with deep sadness that we share the sudden passing of Joseph Daniel Madden on December 22nd, 2025. A beloved father, dedicated lawyer, firefighter, friend, and proud dog dad. Joe was a man whose charm and sense of humor touched everyone who knew him. He is survived by his sister Maureen Madden, his son Ryan Madden, and his daughter Kerri Bermel.
Throughout his career as a workers compensation lawyer, he fought to ensure that others received the justice and support they deserved. He never turned down the opportunity to argue, especially with those in power. As a member of FDNY, he often put others’ lives ahead of his own while running into one burning building after another.
Outside of his work, Joe had a passion for the ocean. He loved scuba diving and walking along the beach, finding peace and serenity in the sounds of the waves. Music was another big part of his life – especially jazz and classical music. He had a deep admiration for B.B. King, and his love for these genres carried through in his personality.
Joe was also an avid reader, always with a book in hand and a thirst for knowledge. His curiosity and intelligence were part of what made him so interesting to talk to.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, if you feel moved to support his surviving family, any contribution toward funeral and memorial expenses during this difficult time would be deeply appreciated. Any contribution, big or small, would mean the world to us and would help ensure that his memory is honored in the best way possible.
This fundraiser is being organized by me, Joe’s son-in-law and the husband of his surviving daughter, to help support Joe's immediate family during this difficult time.
Thank you for keeping Joe Madden and his family in your thoughts.
