Help Annie Get the Life-Changing Equipment She Needs

It’s been the greatest honor of my life to walk alongside my daughter, Annie, in her journey. Despite facing incredible challenges, she is full of life, laughter, and joy, and she has taught me more than I ever imagined.

Annie was born with cerebral palsy due to lack of oxygen at birth, a complication caused by a medical decision. The impact of this condition on her life has been profound. Annie has the most severe form of cerebral palsy (GMFCS 5), and her journey has been filled with challenges.

But despite everything, Annie is the happiest girl I know. Her infectious smile and “bossy” attitude (even though she’s nonverbal and in a wheelchair) show the world her strength and spirit. There’s no messing with her!

Annie has already undergone three major surgeries: a feeding tube surgery, hip surgery, and spinal surgery. She’s a fighter, but her condition requires ongoing medical care and equipment—often not covered by government funding. Right now, the biggest concern is her bones. Annie needs to stand and bear weight on her bones and joints to avoid additional surgeries and complications.

As Annie enters adulthood, she is now 21, and that means she has outgrown much of the equipment she once used. The equipment she needs, including mobility aids like walkers, standers, and bikes, is extremely costly. In fact, a new stander costs around $12k, a new walker costs $20k, and mobility bikes or other assistive devices can run even higher.

The Trexo’s cost is $45,000. While we understand this equipment is new and not yet covered by insurance or government funding, we cannot afford to wait. Every day that passes, Annie’s bones become more fragile, and she needs this technology now. The system may take time to adjust, but we don’t have that luxury.
