Hi! My name is Amanda and this is my 4-year-old son, Greyson. We are currently in the hospital at Nemours Children's Health, Wilmington, Delaware. Greyson was born with stage 5 kidney failure. We started the process of peritoneal dialysis in Grey's 8th month of life. Our home hospital was forced to close their pediatric transplant department, so we went to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. We were worked up for a kidney, and a week later, their program was closed. We have been working up at different hospitals since Grey was almost 2. We finally got the call and headed southward to Nemours. We will be here until March due to appointments and labs several times a week. I have had to take a leave of absence from my job to care for him. The hospital we are currently at does not offer a ton of amenities to families but has been fantastic with Greyson. The cost of food and basic needs has already started taking a toll, and we're not even a week into it. Not to mention the household bills that will be stacking up while we're away. We will also be here for Christmas, and that has also added stress to my plate financially. This boy has gone through a lot in life by no fault of his own and deserves the world. Could you find it in your hearts to make this a fantastic Christmas for him? We have already received the greatest gift of all, a second chance at life through deceased organ donation. I am really struggling with the fact that a young teenager had to pass to give my son a second chance at life, and I am eternally grateful to them and their family for saving my son.
