This is an initiative started by Josephine Kaleida, a transwoman living in India. She is a cognitive science researcher. I am Rajkumar Devjani, an Indian origin citizen of Netherlands who will be managing this GoFundMe page.
Josephine took this initiative as she, along with so many trans and queer people in India, is facing the survival hardships especially after the announcement of Trans Amendment Act 2026. This act was proposed in Indian parliament by MP Virendra Kumar in February 2026 and was legislated within a matter of weeks.
Under this act, only a very narrow definition trans people will now be legally recognized by Indian state (self-identification is no longer accepted) and anyone suspected of helping "convert" others to being trans could be jailed for upto 10 years. These provisions have created a state of panic and despair, making people already in vulnerable positions more vulnerable and target to systemic and institutional abuse and neglect.
This has encouraged her to start this initiative where funds will be pooled for immediate access by trans and queer people in any need for living or medical expenses, or any kind of emergencies. Right now there are already several cases of people in crisis situations in the immediate network of Josephine who need to be rescued and aided financially.
This fund will be privately managed through a bank account registered under the dead name of Josephine. For every collection round, a ledger of donations will be made public with stated reasons for open-auditing.
For any queries one can personally reach out to Josephine through email address in the banner.
