Julion, 25 year old son of Cameron Hughes, gone far too soon

Julion Graham was in prison for stopping a man who was trying to kill his mother.

Julion was an exceptional student in high school and then in college. He was devoted to sports with an incredible love for football and basketball. He was an honorable young man - never involved in any kind of trouble at all. And when he was only beginning to map out what his adult life after school would look like, Julion found himself in the unthinkable position of jumping in to stop a man who was brutally attacking his mother. Julion did stop that man and saved his mother.

But that horrific day launched Julion's journey through the justice system - a system that doesn't always dish out justice equally. For Julion, it resulted in a 9-year prison sentence ... for doing what I believe most any child would instinctively want to do for a parent in grave danger.

In December 2025, roughly 3 years into Julion's sentence, he became very ill. The family was never notified in any way that Julion was so sick, but they would later come to know he had contracted Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis) which is a fungal infection that comes from inhaling spores of the Coccidioides fungus found in dry soils of the Southwest. This infection is easily diagnosed and easily treated with antifungal medications. It is so easily treated, that only 0.1% of worldwide cases become fatal, and that is only in cases that go drastically untreated.

Unfortunately, the prison did not make the decision to get Julion to a hospital until he was in a coma. By that time there was little that could be done. The coccidioidomycosis had spread throughout his body and into his brain. Julion died on January 4th, 2026.

Julion's far too brief life has been forever etched by a series of tragic injustices. It is my sincere hope that you can help this deeply grieving family. Like so many families, Julion's parents are working with limited means and need to see to the funeral needs of their beloved son as well as their immediate needs in dealing with such a bizarre and devastating set of circumstances.

We will be keeping the information updated and will address any questions that come our way. Thank you in advance for taking the time to learn about what happened to Julion and for offering your generosity to him and his family.

Julion is survived by his loving family -
