Hello! My name is Tess, and I am a 17 year old senior at Whitney High School in Rocklin, CA. Over the past 10 years, I have been fortunate to participate with an organization in my hometown called A Touch of Understanding, or ATOU. As I prepare to complete my school years here and head off to college, I want to do something to express my gratitude for everything that ATOU has done for me and taught me over the years. In this spirit, I have decided to do a senior year fundraising project to benefit this organization that means so much to me.
A Touch of Understanding is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Granite Bay, CA, that provides disability awareness training and facilitates inclusion across many Northern California communities. The ATOU Youth F.O.R.C.E is a group of students that operate within ATOU that are passionate about spreading the acceptance of all individuals within their schools and communities.. The mission statement of A Touch of Understanding is to encourage acceptance and respect of all individuals and to minimize the discrimination, bullying, and misunderstanding experienced by children and adults who are perceived as different for any reason. ATOU puts on multiple events and programs at schools and throughout our region that communicate and spread this mission.
An important aspect that enables ATOU to be able to reach so many kids in such a short amount of time is donations from grants and other outside sources. The money raised allows us to put on more workshops at many schools! A $30 donation is enough to put one child through a workshop. Over 100,000 students have heard the message of understanding, kindness and inclusion through participation in an ATOU workshop. The goal of this fundraising campaign is to raise $5000 by May 2019, which would allow more than 150 kids to hear this important message and go on to create a more compassionate world. With your help, we know your donations will enable us to reach and touch even more lives.
For more information about how your donation, big or small, will help, please click on the links below. Updates regarding our progress will be posted throughout the year, so stay tuned!
