"Appalled by the abuse and neglect suffered by hundreds of discarded Spanish hunting dogs, Tania Schmitt launches an initiative to unite them with loving Canadian families"

A Message from our Director, Magill Moyes.

After my debut documentary "Beyond The Reins", I was greatly educated in the power of documentary, and how I can use my skills as a filmmaker to create a change in the lives of others. In my fourth and final year at Sheridan College, I want to use my thesis opportunity to once again make a difference.

As many of you who know me are aware, I am an avid animal lover. Learning about the plight of these Spanish hounds was gut-wrenching, especially considering how closely related these breeds are to my dog, Audley. I felt called to action, knowing I could use my resources as a filmmaker to aid in their fight.

I discovered EGP when researching what I could do as a Canadian to aid with the rescue of these Spanish hounds. Instantly, I was connected to Tania's mission and her obvious drive to place these dogs in a better situation. We immediately connected over joint values and ambitions, leading me to where we stand today.

Additionally, this documentary presents me with an incredible opportunity to travel to Spain to capture on-the-ground stories from those making a change worldwide. EGP has a huge network of Spanish shelters, which are a crucial step in the rescue and rehabilitation process needed to connect these dogs with forever homes. I will be fortunate enough to represent EGP as a flight patron and accompany a hound from Spain to Canada, uniting them with their newfound life.

With your help in funding A Ticket Home, you are giving our team the best chance of providing a voice for the voiceless. As a student-led project, we greatly depend on external funding to cover crew support and travel accommodation, essential equipment, and address any unexpected production expenses that may arise.

Together, let's change the world, one dog at a time.

Magill Moyes, Director.

A Ticket Home is a short documentary following Tania Schmitt, the visionary behind Extraordinary Galgos & Podencos (EGP). Driven by a profound encounter with these Spanish hounds, Tania Schmitt launches an initiative to defy borders to unite over 700+ neglected Spanish hunting dogs with loving Canadian families, crafting an inspiring tale of compassion that spans continents.

These elegant and gentle hounds, traditionally used for hunting, can sadly become victims of cruelty and neglect once their hunting days are deemed over. Driven by an unwavering desire to make a difference, Tania embarked on a mission. This documentary unveils the origins of EGP in 2016, illuminating its role as a bridge between Spanish shelters and compassionate Canadian adopters.
