A Surface for Meg

Margaret Elizabeth Marie Statz is a 15 year old girl who would like nothing more than to be a normal kid, going to her high school, hanging out with friends and doing the teen scene. But Meg has multiple disabilities which make that nearly impossible. A connective tissue disorder, Ehlers-Danlos, makes her joints so hypermobile that simply in moving naturally she is quite likely to injure herself in some way. Often she uses a power wheelchair for transportation. And sometimes she is in so much pain from the condition that moving is not a choice so she misses school. Also, chronic migraines make her miss school. These can last up to 28 days at times and have once required inpatient treatrment to resolve. Meg misses a LOT of school. In addition, Meg has an eating disorder which makes her an object of derision at school, giving her school anxiety and fear.
The Surface computer would allow her to interface with technology which is already in place at the high school. She would be able to receive the class notes and assignments on a daily basis, an assignmens could be modified for her low vision (due to OculoCutaneous Albinism) with the ability to complete and return them electronically. All of this from home, so that should she be absent for a medical reason, she would be able to keep up. Last year was extremely difficult and we are still trying to complete work, even as we are 2 weeks away from the start of Sophomore year.
The school would provide a laptop for her, however, it would not be able to interface to relay work, nor would it be allowed to be brought home. And there is some concern over whether it would continue to follow her after high school, if it even survived that long. If we were able to purchase the Surface ourselves, we would know we had a quality product that would last her many years, and we could be certain would follow her as her property. Thay is why it is really important to us to raise this money. Ideally, we need to do it before we get back to school Sept 4. But I will say just soon, please.
