As a tribute to our dear friend and co-worker, Sunita Jethmalani, who left this world so suddenly, we would like to show her family how much she was admired by creating this "Super Glorious Day Fundraiser" with all proceeds going to an education fund for her two young nephews, who meant so much to her.
From her funeral service, Shobana Gubbi, our Chief Philanthropy Officer shared:
"I had the honor of hiring Sunita to Second Harvest in May 2020, and from that moment, her infectious positivity brightened our days.
We gather here today to honor and celebrate the life of Sunita, a remarkable woman whose cheerful spirit touched the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
Sunita was not only academically accomplished, holding a PhD in Biochemistry and an MBA, but she also had a profound dedication to service. Transitioning from a successful career in the medical sector, where she excelled as a researcher and product manager, she found her true calling in nonprofit work.
What set Sunita apart was not just her impressive credentials or her professional achievements, but her warm heart and generous spirit. She believed deeply in lifting others up.
I got to know her as a person and she shared about her journey from Mumbai to Little Rock Arkansas to the West Coast. One thing that was constant was her desire to help people. When she got disenchanted with the ethics in the pharma industry she turned her energy to nonprofit work.
Over the last four years I worked closely with Sunita on many projects. She elevated our grants work with her scientific and analytical skills. She would often say “Shobana, let’s get some bucks to help people”. And she did.
She introduced me and many colleagues to the teachings of Buddhism and the power of meditation.
As we remember Sunita, let us carry forward her legacy of kindness and dedication. In the words of Buddhist Ajahn Brahm, whose teaching meant a lot to Sunita, “A good heart is better than all the heads in the world.” Sunita embodied this truth, and her good heart will continue to inspire us all.
Thank you, Sunita, for everything. You will be dearly missed."
We know Sunita had the most infectious, positive attitude which impacted everyone she worked with, whether it be staff or funders.
Many emails she sent ended with these wishes: Wish you a super glorious day!
