A Summer at Casa Adobe

Loved ones,

Thank you for being someone who has been willing, even eager to support me during my life and ministry! Your encouragement and support is significant. I have a need that I am asking you to help me fulfill. This past Summer, after a school trip to El Salvador (where the picture above was taken), I and one other seminary student were given invitations to come and spend some time under the discipleship of our professor, Dr. Ruth Padilla-DeBorst. at her home and ministry center, in Costa Rica, Casa Adobe.

Casa Adobe is a Christian community-living organization which brings people and families together, under a single roof, in order to help shoulder one another’s burdens, learn to live more sustainably, and do ministry together. Dr. Padilla herself is a tremendous leader, a profound pastor, and someone under whose discipleship I am certain to gain further clarity regarding the specificity of my place and call in the Kingdom of God.

In order to go, I am in need of funds. My goal is to raise $4,000 by the end of April, 2024. This money will allow me to live modestly at Casa Adobe with Dr. Padilla for three months (May – July 2024), allowing me at least that much time to be formed under her as a minister of the Gospel (with a firmer grasp on the Spanish language!) However, I will be applying for a longer-term stay which would post-pone my leaving until January of 2025, but would allow me to stay for a full year. In that event, more funds would have to be raised (but we will cross that bridge when we get there!)

My ministry opportunities will include sustainable living efforts, community development, youth ministry, and refugee care. It is my hope that by spending time serving at Casa Adobe, I will reshape my pastoral imagination such that I can more effectively serve the Church. I am asking you to make a modest contribution toward this end. Anything you are able to give is, of course, a great help.

Thank you for the various ways you have supported me in the past. I am humbled to think that you look to me as part of the next generation of leaders in the Church, and so I wish to be formed as such to the greatest extent possible. With your continued support, I know such formation is not only possible, but quite near.
