A Stroke of Courage: Let’s Lift up Joy Together.

Hello everyone! I’m Michael B. Owen, one of Joy Lyddon’s children. My mom suffered a stroke earlier this month. We got her to the hospital and all we’ve focused on is getting her healthy, speaking, and walking again. We have figured out how to get her the nutrients she needs, and progress is being made. She’s saying singular words now and answering yes or no questions.
Now that we’re past the desperation stage, we’re approaching moving her to a skilled nursing facility to do her rehab outside of the hospital and closer to home. I was on the phone with her caseworker and the facility we’ve gone with. Her medical insurance only covers the first 21 days; after that, it’s $209 a day copay for treatment. My mom lives off social security, and it doesn’t come anywhere near covering her treatment costs, let alone anything else she may require afterwards.
We’re trying to match funding with the 79 days the insurance company allows for a skilled nursing stay. Anything helps, we’re doing whatever we can to get my mom her ability to walk and talk back and be her normal silly independent self! Thank you for hearing my cries for help.
