Peter Bertoncini, a much-loved brother, uncle and dear friend, sadly passed away on the 10th May. Peter’s funeral and blessing will be held on 16th June. Regrettably, there can be no church service during these strange times, but we will be holding a memorial service at St Peter’s Italian Church at some point in the future and we hope that everyone that knew and loved him will be able to attend to celebrate his life and give him the send off he deserves. Instead of sending flowers, we are asking for donations to St Peter’s Italian church as we believe this is what Peter would have wanted.
For many years, Peter had been an extremely active member of the community at St Peter’s Italian Church, performing the roles of Master of Ceremonies, sacristan, florist and general factotum of the church. Peter used his extraordinary artistic talents to serve the church and those he loved.
Every July, Peter organised the outdoor procession in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He designed the floats; created the costumes and directed the event. His creativity was also called upon year after year to design and build the church’s life-size crib, taking weeks to put together, resulting in a truly breath-taking scene.
Peter also dedicated time to the Parish Youth Centre, helping to provide a safe haven for young Italians, teaching them English and supporting them in seeking employment and accommodation. His cooking skills were also called upon to prepare many meals for good causes. Peter never said no, he was hard working, a good friend to many and above all, a good Christian.
We have lost a unique individual, a man who brought the world to life wherever he was. Peter was a gifted story teller and a true, kind-hearted, generous brother, uncle and dear friend, who would do anything for anyone. He will be sorely missed by us all.
Thank you all for your support. Best Wishes, from all of Peter’s family xx
