A year ago, I decided to make a documentary film about my experience coming of age as a gay man in the Black church. For about 20 years I’ve personally struggled with a prevailing theology that centered a God, whom we are to call love, who also deny love to queer and trans people. But I get it now: God loves us, too! However, some of God’s other children still struggle with that fact. My documentary, “A Soul Cleansing,” is a film highlighting the stories of black queer Christians, (some out, some not) who’ve decided that silence is no longer an option.
