A Son's Battle with Lymphedema

Donation protected
As a mother, nothing is harder than watching your child suffer and feeling helpless to make it better. My son Paul has been battling scrotal lymphedema since he was just 13 years old. What started as a condition that doctors claimed might “go away on its own” has turned into a lifelong struggle that has taken so much from him — his confidence, his comfort, and at times, even his hope.

Over the years, we’ve seen countless doctors. Each time, we left with a different explanation: it might be allergies, it might improve after puberty, or he simply needed to lose weight. But none of those answers helped. Instead, Paul felt like a medical experiment — dismissed, humiliated, and still in pain. I've watched him lose trust in the medical system and in himself, trying to stay strong while silently wondering if anyone would ever truly help him.

Now 20 years old, Paul faces several challenges every single day that most of us can't imagine. Simple tasks like walking, sitting comfortably, driving, or even going to the store have become painful and exhausting. The physical toll is only part of it — the emotional impact has been devastating. He’s withdrawn from social life, missed countless family events, and struggles with his self-esteem. As his mom, it breaks my heart to see such a bright, kind young man feel so defeated.

After years of searching, we finally found a specialist team in Houston, Texas, that believes they can help. Paul has been approved for a major reconstructive surgery scheduled for November, and for the first time in years, he’s allowing himself to feel hope — hope for a normal life, hope to move without pain, and hope to live freely again.

However, this surgery, along with travel, lodging, and recovery costs, comes with a heavy financial burden that our family simply cannot manage on our own. We are doing everything we can, but we need help. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward giving Paul the chance to live the life he deserves — one free of pain, shame, and constant discomfort.

Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I just want to see my son truly smile again and live the life that every 20-year-old deserves.
