Story

Our friend (Dijan)'s mom is suffering from Gallbladder Cancer and we (Dijan's friends) are trying to help him financially, both personally and through crowdfunding. These are particularly hard times for Dijan as his house was also severely damaged by the earthquake in 2015.  Please boost our effort by contributing to this cause. Even a small amount of financial help from you will enable us to help our dear friend.  Dijan mom’s cancer has reached advanced stage and my friend will need some funds ASAP to continue treatment.

Here is the story from the patient's own son (Dijan).

My mom had undergone surgery for Choledochal cyst (Cyst in Gall Bladder) four years back. The surgery went well and gall bladder along with the cyst was removed. However, with the help of the histological test of the specimen, we came to know that it was adenocarcinoma of the gall bladder. As surgery is the best option for cancer, we thought we had cured her disease. We kept following up for six months with the doctor. Every test was normal so we moved ahead in our lives.

However, during May of this year, Mom started complaining of pain at the site where her surgery had been performed. We met with the same doctor who had performed surgery for the problem. He suggested some normal blood tests to find out the problem. But since everything was normal at the beginning, he suggested mom medicine for pain management. In spite of taking the medicine, her pain was not relieved. Finally he suggested for a CT scan which revealed recurrent mass at the site from where Gall bladder was removed. Doctor confirmed the mass as cancer which has reoccurred. As we were trying to diagnose the problem, side by side her mass was increasing which blocked her hepatic ducts and resulted in jaundice. Her jaundice was gradually increasing. I explored everywhere I could for the treatment. I came to know that the only available treatment option is to lower her jaundice and then after give chemotherapy to extend my mother’s life. Till then my mother’s condition had already deteriorated. She experienced excruciating pain, fever. So we admitted her in Cancer Hospital for her treatment. But shame to the doctors in Nepal we couldn’t manage her condition there. So I brought my mother to Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital (RGCIRC), Delhi for treatment.

Doctors at RGCIRC immediately after admission carried out number of tests and managed to lower her jaundice by draining out bile by the help of pipe which is inserted inside her liver. Since then her jaundice has started to lower down to normal level. We have already spent first month at RGCIRC just to lower the jaundice. Doctor suggested for first three cycle of chemotherapy and if necessary further three more cycle. Each cycle would be three weeks long and cost would depend on the condition of each chemotherapy cycle.

Our wait for the jaundice to come down was over. And doctor as planned started her first chemotherapy of the first cycle. Unfortunately, she started bleeding from her drain pipe from the second day. As she was bleeding, she was losing her blood cells and side by side clot was being developed which blocked the drain pipe to increase her jaundice level. To add to our suffering her next chemo was stopped and her condition was managed accordingly. She was admitted for two weeks just to manage her condition, to bring the jaundice to normal level, increase her blood cells and relieve her of pain. Now again we are back to waiting for her jaundice to come down so that she could go ahead with her remaining chemotherapy.
