Hi, my name is Justin and I’m hoping to raise money so that my son, Noah, can pursue his dream of studying Politics at Bristol University.
Noah is 22 years old and has been in the UK for 16 months on a British Passport from his Mum. He was recently accepted into a Foundation Year course for Bristol University in Social Sciences and allocated a coveted place in Halls of Residence on Campus. Recently, he learned that he is not entitled to Government Funding for both tuition fees and maintenance costs, as he hasn’t been living in the country for long enough, which we have now been advised is three years. This was counter to the information he was previously given by the University, and it is too late for him to defer.
I am hoping to raise funds to cover his Foundation Year costs as this opportunity will not present itself again. I have no other option but to set up a GoFundMe to try and make this dream happen for my son, and as a parent I of course want the very best for my child.
Noah was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2016, two weeks after his 16th birthday. Due to poor medical treatment, suffering terribly with both psychosis and tremors, Noah went from being a brilliant student, near the top of his class, to struggling not only with his grades but also with his physical and mental health. When Noah graduated in 2017, his grades were poor, a fall that has significantly affected his life.
Following this, Noah spent time living in Brisbane severely depressed and without direction. His plan to move to the UK was thwarted for a few years due to further health complications and Covid.
In May 2022, when Australia reopened its borders, Noah finally moved to the UK to start a new chapter. Since then, he’s gone from strength to strength working multiple jobs, helping to raise his baby brother, and get back his mojo.
This year, Noah applied for his dream course at Bristol University, and, through a well-written entrance essay and successful interview, he was accepted. As a family we were so excited about how much he had achieved, and how bright his future was now looking. He was going to be living in the same area where his Mum was born and studying at the same University as his grandfather. It all seemed like life was turning around.
Six weeks out from starting University (3rd August), he received notice that he was ineligible for SFE funding, and, as stated previously, it is too late for him to defer his place. As you can imagine, it is difficult for me as a parent to see my child lose such an opportunity.
So here I am, with my hat in my hand, and my heart on my sleeve…
Every bit of support counts, no matter how small. If you can’t donate, please share this. I hope that one day Noah’s struggle will become an inspiring story, showing that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.
Much, much love, Justin x
