A single mom with a 5 year old boy

Hi my name is Nick Rau and I am a realtor in the Greater Philadelphia Area. I am starting this fundraiser to help a client who recently reached out to me to sell her home due to being unable to afford her mortgage payments recently due to a 50% pay cut. She is a single mother with a 5 year old boy and took this pay cut due to her position being linked to the slowing of the economy right now and her position being directly linked to the markets. Every day this career seems to present something new.

I went on a listing appointment today and met with a single mom who is completely down on her luck. I have not been able to stop thinking about her situation since I met with her. She is stuck in a terrible financial position despite actively doing the right things. She is employed and has been employed for years and even had 4 promotions with her current employer however she recently took a 50% reduction in pay at work due to the slowing economy and her position being directly tied to the markets. Her son is 5 years old and she can only work during the hours he is at school (no help from family) which is 830-430 because she cant afford before care or aftercare. She makes 33k per year and has been denied for any kind of assistance from the government because she makes too much money(unbelievable). Her credit card debt is mounting and she is now starting to miss mortgage payments. Life can really bring you to your knees and if you havent found yourself in this kind of situation in your life consider yourself extremely blessed. However this woman was no charity case. The entire time I could not help but be moved by her being so steadfast that she only needs a place to live, to be able to go to work and to be able to give her son a good life. No worries about vacations. material possessions etc. It is amazing how quickly you'll find whats important when the tough really gets going...

I am putting together a bunch of toys, clothes and a gift card for her to shop for food for themselves. Otherwise, just some prayers that things get back on track are helpful and a reminder to count whatever blessings you may have. You stood on the shoulders of many to have what you have and be successful at whatever it is you are succesful at. It was not done alone and you never know the tragedies that life can introduce and steal it all away in a moments notice.
