A single mom replace her transmission
Donation protected
Hi everyone, I'm Sarah, and I started this to raise the money needed to replace the transmission in my only vehicle. It started going out on a Thursday about two weeks ago, and by Tuesday, I had a mechanic telling me it wouldn't get much further. He also informed me that this is a common issue in that model and has replaced six others this year alone. The warranty was good up until 60,000 miles and was already out when I purchased it two years ago. I contacted the local Chevrolet service center, where the mechanic acknowledged they knew there was trouble with them and was referred to the primary office for GM. I started a 'claim' and was told someone would reach out within 24 hours to let me know if cost assistance was available for the replacement. Twenty-four hours turned into several days. When I finally got through to someone, they explained that I would have to pay the diagnostic fees first to diagnose it at a Chevrolet repair center before they could even tell me if the assistance would be available. I contacted the service center to ask about the fees and was told it would be anywhere from $140-$400 to diagnose. The gentleman I spoke with told me it was doubtful GM would offer much in cost assistance because I have 100,000 miles on the vehicle. I have explored every other option before finally setting my pride aside to ask for help. If you know me, I'm usually everyone's go-to person. I'm the pay it forward, do good whenever and wherever you can, and be the change you want to see kind of person. I have had lows and highs in life and always managed to find a solution. Except for this time, and I will explain.
I'm a single mom of six who works one full-time job while pursuing a career in real estate, and I also do little things like instacart for extra cash on the side. I spent my savings to hire the best lawyer possible to break away from my abusive ex-husband. I'm a domestic violence survivor who spent too long thinking I didn't deserve better. I lost some of my best years because I did not have the strength or confidence to make it on my own. After several months of counseling, and motivation from my children and family, I found that early last year and decided it was time to take my life back, no matter how hard it got. I work extremely hard to maintain a good life for my children because, as the saying goes, "never let your storm get your kids wet." I manage PTSD, depression, anxiety, and everything else, but this has done me in because I do not have the savings set aside. I'm currently managing by borrowing my mom's Volkswagen beetle, which she graciously and unhesitantly loaned me for the time being.
I found out today the mechanic can get a transmission in sooner than I thought. He will have it in about two weeks, which gives me about three to get the money up. He quoted me $5,000 for the final cost of replacing the transmission. That includes everything he will need to replace and labor.
If you aren't able to donate, please consider sharing this. It all helps!
