Hi, I am Bertrand Shoberg, friends call me Marcus. Back in May 2023, after working a job for a year, my hours suddenly went way down as my rent went up. Me and my daughter was forced into a homeless situation. By blessing we were given a hotel room so I could get back on my feet. I took my last good check and rented a car to do Uber. That worked out great, I got us into a new apartment in a much cleaner and safer neighborhood, I thank God for that.
As the summer went on I had to rent another vehicle to continue working. I got a ride from Tucson to Mesa AZ to get a car to continue Uber. However on October 27th, 2023, Uber determined that my insurance papers were altered or fraudulent. I appealed and that appeal was denied causing a permanent deactivation of my account. Old charges from 2008, 2005, and 2002 prevented me from driving for Lyft, Doordash, Grubhub and other platforms. I was forced to bring the car back to Tempe.
Upon further investigation and talking with Uber I discovered that the car rental company botched the paperwork, Uber still will not reactivate my account, after driving for them in my 3rd year.
I have been looking for work full time daily and nothing opened up for me. Rent is due soon, $906. My daughter's birthday was 11/20 this year and I was not able to get her the gifts and clothes she needs due to my sudden loss of income. She has no warm clothes, she outgrew everything as children her age often do. With help from family I was able to throw her a small birthday party thankfully.
My daughter's mom is not active in her life at all. I have raised her on my own since she was 2.
I am not good at asking for help, but it is needed in a major way. I have interviews lined up for after the holiday, and many other job leads to follow. I am sure something will open up for me sooner or later. We do need a boost though. We just moved into this place in July, and by November, we are back at square one.
I feel terrible, although this isn't my fault, and I try my hardest everyday. I can't help but feel as if I disappointed my daughter down and failed her.
One of my biggest fears is being homeless with her, again.
Life is discouraging but I cannot give up, I am all this little girl has. I am asking for funding to help with rent, gas, water and lights, as well as clothes and a warm coat for my daughter. Although I do not like asking for this kind of help, I know I need to swallow my pride and ask for help with this child of mine and our situation. Setting this GoFundMe up was encouraged by my mom, close friends, as well as my rental office. This will help get me back on solid ground so I can provide for my daughter.
I am not afraid to work. I wake up at 4am 7 days a week, ready to go. Even a good job lead in Tucson or online would be a blessing from above.
Thank you for taking your time to read all of this. We wish you all happy holidays and the most love and light in your lives as we thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Marcus and Ayvah Shoberg
