A Shower for Hugo: Overcoming Cancer Challenges

Donation protected
I met Hugo about 7 years ago! I hired him to paint a house I was selling.  Up until October, he was a very healthy, active, busy 7-days-a-week, 74-year-old man!! No one believed he was 13 years older than me!  Anyone who knows me knows I have not had much luck in the man department.   When I found Hugo, I hit the jackpot!  He is the most loving and amazing man I have ever known.  In late October, he started feeling like one of his legs was going to give out on him. After some tests were run and his legs became completely numb, we found out he has metastatic cancer in his lung, brain, and spine, which caused paralysis of his lower extremities within 24 hours! After spinal surgery, he went into rehab and  we had to make  the decision for him to come home or go to a nursing home! It had been financially hard on him because he had to hire day providers for the week while I am at work with me watching him on the weekends and evenings.  And he only gets SS now since he can’t work.  Because of this I can’t work the hours I am used to and therefore not making the money I used to.  But, It has been wonderful waking up with him again, even though he is in a hospital bed. Best decision ever but financially draining.  When we got the devastating diagnoses, we both were emotional obviously.  I asked him..why did we put off getting married??  He said to me, it’s not to late!  After talking for 5 years about it, we finally tied the knot on January 11th! We have overcome every obstacle thrown in front of us except one!  He has not been able to shower since October!! His bathroom door needs to be widened, and the tub needs to come out and a shower with grab bars put in. We got an estimate for $25,000 but feels if we don’t hire professionals and hires individuals, he can get it done cheaper than that for sure. I had a few of our friends ask me to set up this GoFundMe to help him with the cost.  I am really bad at asking n for help but here I am. Thank you for taking the time to read our love story ❤️ and for any donations ahead of time!  We don’t want to miss thanking each and every one of you!  Hugo has been such a blessing in my life and I want him to be as comfortable as he can.  His hygiene routine has always been a thing for him and I want him to be able to do that again at least!  Thanks again! ❤️❤️
