Kiyona is 5 years old who has a rare genetic mutation of her Dock7 gene. With this mutation comes seizures that have become so hard to control with medications.
On December 5th, 2025, Kiyona went into a nasty seizure that required 911 assistance to get her to the hospital. Once we arrived, she went into a 17-minute seizure that required 2 rounds of rescue meds to pull her out. With this seizure, her O2 tanked to the 70s.
Her neurologist has recommended Kiyona getting a service dog. This dog could help with the quality of her life, give us peace of mind, and potentially even save her life! This service dog would go through over 1,000 hours of training to learn how to detect and alert before a seizure begins and help keep her safe during a seizure. This would be vital at night time when there are no eyes on her while she sleeps, besides the camera in her bed.
Kiyona was accepted by SIT Service Dogs to receive a dog, but with that comes a hefty financial situation. When we sign the contract, a 25% down payment is due, $6,000, and the total cost of the dog will be $25,000. With the price, it is about a $2,500 cost for graduation and the little things that follow in that period.
