My name is Kayla Massie and I'm raising money for a service dog. Three days after my 17th birthday, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It felt like my whole world had flipped upside down in a matter of hours. Ever since I was diagnosed, a little over a year and a half ago, I have consistently been in and out of hospitals for highs and lows.

Currently, I work daily as a camp counselor and it is to the point I cannot feel when my sugars are dangerously out of range. With the assistance of a service dog, I will be allowed to continue the job that I love, working with kids and making a difference for them daily while also allowing myself to live independently.

My future plans are to start college online while continuing to work as a camp counselor for outdoor education with the hopes of transferring to the University of New Orleans to pursue a degree in music education. None of these goals, nor my future goals, will be possible on my own without the companionship of a service dog to sense when my sugars are dangerously out of range.
