A service dog for Isaac's safety

Hi! My name is Isaac and I am 7 years old. In September 2022 I was diagnosed with epilepsy after I had a seizure that left me unresponsive for almost 10 minutes and led to sinus bradycardia. I was sent to Cincinnati Children's Hospital where I stayed for a week. My epilepsy comes from the left occipital region of my brain and during a seizure I become blind and deaf. I settled into my new "normal" until December 2023 when I began having breakthrough seizures. The doctors increased my medication but it didn't help. Then January 5th 2024 I woke up late and my breath smelled fruity. My Mom rushed to the pharmacy and bought a meter and checked my blood sugar it just read greater than 600. I was rushed to the ER where a blood test revealed my blood sugar was 654. I was sent to Cincinnati Children's Hospital again and admitted. My A1C was 12.5 and I was in severe DKA. I went 49 hours without eating hooked up to an insulin drip until my blood sugar came down and my ketones lowered. On January 9th 2024 I was officially diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The doctors started treating me right away. I wear a Dexcom CGM and an insulin pump that helps me live each day. Unfortunately my blood sugars remain unstable and I experience very high blood sugars and very low blood sugars and they change more rapidly than technology can track. My mom and Dad do a great job with my team of doctors, but there is a gap that puts me at risk. Every high and low BG can cause breakthrough seizures which is very dangerous and scary. That's where a DAD ( Diabetic Alert Dog) comes in!! After lots of research we've found that many kids just like me have found better control over their T1D with the assistance of a service dog. A DAD can alert to a low or high BG up to 30 minutes before my dexcom and pump, giving my mom and dad the chance to treat them quickly and more effectively. We have found a program Tattle Tails scent dogs located in Utah that has offered to help us get a DAD that will allow me to have more control over my T1Ds and help keep me safe. The cost of a DAD can be quite expensive ranging from $14k to $20k. With the help of Tattle tails we are trying to raise the $7k cost of the dog with your help!! Any extra would help with travel expenses from Ohio to Utah to get the DAD once its ready for me. I may have had a rough start, but I am exactly who I was created to be.... and with your help I can be healthier and safer than ever!! Thank you from my heart and the hearts of those that love me!!
