A Service Dog for Corbin

Please help Corbin get a service dog!
Corbin is an amazing little boy who always tries his hardest. Sadly, Corbin struggles with some substantial mental health challenges including PTSD, ADHD, probable mood disorder, and Autism like traits. He is considered especially hard to treat due to the fact that a lot of his social and medical history is unknown since our family adopted him when he was three and a half year old.
His doctors and therapist have recently recommended that Corbin get a service dog for safety reasons. Corbin has an exaggerated fight or flight response and will run or engage in physical agression when frustrated or reminded of past trauma. The goal of the service dog would be to anchor Corbin and create space around him so that everyone can remain safe. Corbin also struggles with mild self harm and lack of awareness of personal space. The service dog would be trained to interrupt self harm and pull Corbin away from strangers.
Our family was lucky to find a non-profit organization in our city that trains and places service dogs with children who have disabilities. We will be partnering with Perfect Fit Canines Inc, a 501c3 non profit organization. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover Service Dogs. The estimated cost to raise and train a dog to meet Corbin's specific needs is $16,000 , well below the national average since Perfect Fit Canines makes great use of volunteers. We are attempting to raise slightly above this amount to cover time away from work to attend a mandatory two week intensive training session with the selected dog and to cover any unexpected costs. Should we exceed our goal, we will donate the excess to another child in need of a Service Dog.
We will be hosting several other fundraising events over the next months. If you would like to help in another way or would like information on upcoming events, please contactme.
