A Series of Unfortunate Events

Thank you for considering this page. After an extensive series of unfortunate events, my family is dealing with over $9,000 of unforeseen expenses that we just don't know how we're going to pay. If you can help, I would be so grateful!

Two and half years ago, I had my first of five surgeries. I went septic a week later and almost died. Our family got COVID a year after this. My husband almost died from COVID, having a six-day stay in the hospital with acute respiratory failure. I was out of work for three months with a nasty case, myself. I was a COVID long hauler, but no one could figure out why it had hit me so hard. Turns out I had never healed from having gone septic the year before. I had a chronic underlying staph infection from that first surgery which resulted in lots of infections, bad health, extensive wound care, and my second surgery to remove the pockets of puss a few months later.

This past November, my nose literally collapsed from having to wear masks (no one knew this was even a thing!). I've been off work since, having had two more surgeries to reconstruct it. Needless to say, money has been tight for a while.

On the same day as my first surgery, my brother-in-law had a bone marrow transplant for a rare form of blood cancer. He was never the same. Add the pandemic, and his quality of life has just been awful, never having regained his immune system. This past Christmas his family [finally] contracted COVID (they had been so diligent for so long, but it was only a matter of time!). His body couldn't take it. After a week on life support, he died on January 17th.

Of course we would attend his funeral, so we made arrangements to drive our minivan. The transmission blew about two hours into the trip, and we were stranded, literally on the edge of civilization. We spent the night in a hotel, had to get our car towed (and is in the shop being fixed as I write this), and had to rent another minivan for our trip. We did make it to the funeral and home again, but these unforeseen costs are just too much for us to cover with our current financial state.

If you're to this point in the story, I appreciate your taking the time. I've never done a GoFundMe before, but have been told there are wonderful, generous people out there that are willing to help. If there's anything you can give, I thank you in advance for your consideration and wish you joy and blessings!
