Hi, my name is Beth Hughes, and I am Shay McGowen’s biological mother. I’m reaching out to our community because Shay recently experienced a life-changing event that has left her in a difficult situation. She was involved in a car accident that completely totaled her vehicle, and now she’s facing the challenge of moving forward without reliable transportation. On April 8th, Shay had a packed day, attending school and working a late shift until 10pm. She hit gravel on the side of the road on Fairgrounds. The gravel caused her car to skid, pulling her into a ditch, where her vehicle flipped multiple times. She went airborne, hitting an electrical pole part of the way up, causing the pole to split in 2 areas. It's nothing short of a miracle that Shay walked away with only minor injuries. We're grateful for her safety and well-being. The accident not only left Shay without a car, but she is also responsible for paying off the remaining balance on her totaled vehicle. This unexpected financial burden has made it nearly impossible for her to purchase a new car and regain her independence. Reliable transportation is essential for Shay to get to work, manage daily responsibilities, and maintain her sense of stability during this tough time. Shay will be graduating high school in a month and starting college. This could've been a tragedy, but instead, we're given a chance to help Shay move forward. As a parent, I've seen the pain of losing a child too soon – often in accidents like this. Shay's survival feels like a gift, and we're grateful for the opportunity to support her life, rather than mourn her loss.
