A second chance for Tika

Hello friends and family!
     I write this story today on behalf of one of my happy thoughts. Tika was found 4 years ago running down a busy road in Richmond. She was matted, covered with fleas, pregnant and had a severe heart defect. When I adopted her I accepted that her time with me might be short.

     Tika came to us with the sole purpose of becoming the emotional support companion for Barkley, my big anxious lab / pit rescue. From her first day in our home, Tika took her job very seriously. The two of them quickly became inseparable and were so bonded that I used to joke that she was “my dogs dog.” It took her a long time to learn that she could trust and depend on us also but when that happened her personality stole our hearts. She is a naughty little clown that brings me to tears laughing every day. Our home wouldn’t be whole without her.

     I recently visited a cardiologist in hopes of implementing some preventative measures that might prolong her quality of life. I was shocked and almost horrified to learn that her heart condition is completely fixable. The procedure is relatively easy although it is expensive. I believe that the treatment is a worthwhile endeavor because she is young and this surgery will insure that she can live her natural life free of mediations, supplements, special foods and restrictions.

     The surgery is scheduled for February 26th. I have been working with the vet and some various pet rescue organizations to secure some of the funds but I really need a little additional help. Any amount that you would be willing to donate would SO appreciated. Even just reposting this campaign would be very helpful. Tika is 1/3 of my heart and I will forever be in debt to your kindness.
