A Second Chance For Sephy

Persephone, or “Sephy” as she is known to her family, is a Maremma Sheepdog who we originally intended to purchase to guard our sheep.  When we arrived at the farm to meet her however, it became immediately apparent that something wasn’t right.  Sephy didn’t want to get up, and when she did it was to hobble a few steps before lying back down in the grass.  She had evidence of a facial injury and was very timid around people.  Despite recognizing immediately that this pup was never going to be a typical herd guardian, we couldn’t walk away and leave her, and instead opted to pay the breeders’ price to be able to give her the life and care she deserved.
An initial evaluation by our vet has determined that Sephy has severe deformities to both her right front and right hind leg which will  require extensive surgery to repair, and she has been referred to Tufts Veterinary School for further care.  We anticipate getting more info in regard to treatment options within the next week and are hopeful that the vets can come up with a plan to give Sephy the pain free life she deserves.
