A Second Chance for Henry Ridad

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,

We hope this message finds you well. We are reaching out on behalf of our father, Henry Ridad, who urgently needs a kidney transplant. As many of you know, Henry has been diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease and now depends on regular dialysis treatments to survive.

On a brighter note, our incredible mother has learned to perform home hemodialysis, and does my dad's treatment four times a week, which has led them both to retire. These dialysis sessions are physically exhausting and have significantly impacted his quality of life. Although our father remains strong, it undoubtedly takes a toll on his spirit. Our father has always been a pillar of strength for our family. He is our hero.

At 65 years of age, he has spent his life as a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend. Born and raised in the Philippines, he worked tirelessly to provide for us, always putting our needs above his own. His laughter fills our home, his wisdom guides us through life’s toughest moments, and his kindness and sense of humor have touched those who know him. This is why we hope to fight for as many healthy years as we can have with our dad. His medical team has determined that a kidney transplant is his only hope for a healthier future.

Here in the U.S., there is an average 15-year waitlist for a kidney transplant, and because our dad is 65 years old, the chances become slimmer. Miraculously, we have found a compatible donor in the Philippines who is willing to give our father the gift of life. They share the same blood type, a rare and precious compatibility that makes the transplant possible. Because Henry is a dual citizen, the Kidney Transplant Ethics Team has approved his case. We are beyond blessed to have this opportunity and have so much hope for our dad's future because of it.

However, the financial burden associated with this procedure is overwhelming. The estimated cost for the transplant, including pre-operative evaluations, surgery, post-operative care, and necessary medications, amounts to $86,000. This figure also encompasses travel expenses and accommodations, as the procedure will take place overseas. Because this will be taking place in the Philippines, it will not be covered by insurance and will be entirely out-of-pocket. Our family cannot manage this financial strain alone. We are reaching out to friends, family, and compassionate individuals to help us raise the necessary funds to proceed with the transplant.

Although he will be immunocompromised with a risk of rejection for the rest of his life, those risks are worth the fight because it means he can continue to be with us—to share meals, tell stories, and watch his future grandchildren grow. It means a better quality of life (for him and my mom, who has to do his dialysis for him), and most importantly, it means we get more time with the man we love.

Your generosity can make a world of difference, giving Henry the chance to live a life free from the constraints of his current health challenges. Any contribution, no matter how small, will be a step forward in making this life-saving procedure a reality. Additionally, your prayers, positive thoughts, and shares of this campaign are equally valuable and appreciated.

We understand that times are tough for many, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to read our father’s story. If you are unable to contribute financially, your moral support means the world to us! Our family—Henry, Eloisa, Chad, Jeremy, and Alyssa—thank you so much for your love, care, and support in giving our dad the second chance he deserves.

With heartfelt gratitude,
The Ridad Family
