UPDATE I got amazing news that Gizmo does not require surgery at this moment, we will be bringing her home this evening with a bill closer to $2,000 than $20,000, which is much more manageable for our financial situation. I should be able to cover her expenses for now, and I sincerely appreciate anyone who has donated and still chooses to donate.
I humbly request financial support with life saving measures, giving my 12 year old cat Gizmo a second chance at a life that has not been fully lived. She was accidentally struck by the tire of our car and suffered a broken pelvis. Luckily, there is no fluid/blood in her abdomen, and her bladder is intact, her ribs are unbroken, but we are uncertain if she could have any herniated discs or other complications, and how this will impact her life, if we are able to save it. We have made the decision to pursue surgery and attempt life saving care rather than euthanasia, because I believe she deserves to live a full life where she can actually experience true comfort, love and happiness. It shouldn’t be cut short by undue tragedy, especially considering the lack of life she lived for the first half.
If we incur funding beyond what we require for her care, we will be refunding the additional.
Bills So Far:
$154 Emergency Assessment Fee
$1,617.12 - $1848.14 12-24 Hour Stay
$5,000 - $10,000 Estimate for Pelvis Surgery with Board Certified Surgeon
I am approved for $8,700 in Care Credit, but the amount for surgery will be required upfront (or at least, most likely the difference of what Care Credit doesn’t cover).
This does not include follow up visits, at home pain management, or other costs required for her recovery.
Without going into detail, Gizmo has had a hard life. She deserved much better than what she got. After she ended up outside and alone when her owner moved away a year ago, I made the decision to take responsibility for her. She is the sister to my cat Leda and one of the sweetest cats EVER. Every day she climbs me to be held, and drools while she purrs. We attempted having her indoors with us for nearly a year but after consuming mass food and various things that could make her sick, we resorted to letting her stay back outside since she was happier there, she sticks to our yard and porch, and we’ve never had an issue. Until now. I should never let her back outside. I have regretted it ever since and especially now, and the only thing I can do is try to make it right and give her the life she truly deserves. If we are able to save her and without causing further suffering, I will do everything in my power to give her the best life she could ever possibly imagine.
For years, I have made efforts to donate to charitable causes, no matter how small, and typically favoring animal emergencies on GoFundMe’s such as this very one, and I ascertain I absolutely NEVER ask for or rely on help unless it is desperate. I believe in Karma and I’m far from perfect but I try incredibly hard every day to do what is most right even when no one is watching. Now it is my turn to pray that what goes around truly does come around.
When you take in a pet, it is a lifelong commitment. It’s a fact that cats are safer indoors and I did not honor that commitment I made to Gizmo, but I am now and will never break it again. When you question if your cat is safer indoors, please think of us and Gizmo. I can assure you they are.
