My son Dominic is autistic, epileptic, and has ADHD. As his parent and primary caregiver, I do everything I can to make sure he feels safe and supported. One of the things that brings Dominic the most comfort is being outside in nature—it’s incredibly therapeutic for him, and it helps us both recharge.
Since he was 1 year old, Dominic has used the same jogging stroller to join me on walks and outings. Now, as he’s turning 8 in May, he’s outgrown it. He still tries to ride in his little stroller, but he’s long since maxed out the height and weight requirements. If he leans back, the stroller can flip, making it very unsafe. I purchased a wagon over the years and it’s extremely worn out too, on our last outing it collapsed. For Dominic, the stroller isn’t just a way to get around—it’s his safe space, especially if he has a seizure or a meltdown.
We’ve tried to get a new special needs stroller through insurance, but the system is flawed and even denies necessary medical care. I’ve been unsuccessful in securing a stroller that way, and it’s been a real struggle. A new special needs stroller would be a huge part of our daily life and would be used for years to come. It would give Dominic the comfort and security he needs, and allow us to keep enjoying the outdoors together. I would be so grateful for any help—this would truly be a life-changing gift for Dominic and our family.
