Hi,
My name is Shannon Pragosa. My family fosters dogs through Dusty Tails Animal Rescue that have been pulled from kill shelters, found as strays on the side of the road, or dumped in the woods in rural SC.
Almost all of the 10 adult fosters we have taken in since Oct 2024 have been terrified of crates. We have had countless destroyed.
Our Wendy, who is pictured, came as a momma of 8 from an outdoor shelter in rural SC. The abuse she endured from humans was extreme. She was bounced from foster to foster because of her anxiety and, due to it, her destructive behaviors. She found her way to us, where we worked on confidence. She can now get in a car and does not tremble when people walk past.
She was adopted, but in less than a week, her adopters returned her due, yet again, to her anxiety and destructive behaviors.
We officially adopted Wendy that same night that I went to pick her up from the adoptive family. She was not going to be bounced around any longer.
Wendy, like so many of our fosters, needs a high-impact crate to start crate training. Our goal is, after a lot of work, she can transition to a normal crate and we can use the high-anxiety crate for future abused fosters.
These crates (as pictured) cost over $900. The rescue simply cannot help with this expense. And, I have a tendency to take the medically fragile or emotionally scared foster cases.
Any help would be appreciated—even if we don’t reach our goal—anything is a step in the right direction.
