Help Ada and Her Four Sons Find a Safe Home
This past year has been unimaginably hard for my friend Ada and her four sons — Victor (16), Chimuanya (14), Chidiomimi (12), and Onyedika (7).
They are a Nigerian immigrant family who have been active, engaged members of their Seattle community since moving here many years ago. They are involved in their church community at Seattle Christian Center, and the boys all attend Seattle Public Schools.
Last March, their lives changed overnight when Victor was struck by a hit-and-run driver. He sustained a traumatic brain injury, a broken leg, and serious internal injuries, and was left in a coma. The driver was never caught, which means the family is not eligible for compensation through the Crime Victims’ Assistance Fund.
As Victor slowly recovered, the family did everything they could just to keep going — physically, emotionally, and financially.
During this same period, the conditions in their apartment deteriorated badly. The family is living with mice, cockroaches, bed bugs, black mold, and a broken window, and they have not had access to laundry facilities for many months. Despite repeated efforts, their landlord has failed to address these unsafe conditions. Because of the infestation and damage, most of their belongings cannot safely be moved and will need to be replaced.
As if that weren’t enough, Victor was injured again at school in December, breaking his other leg and requiring another surgery and a long recovery.
Through all of this, Ada has continued to work full-time night shifts as a CNA at Harborview Hospital, caring for others while holding her own family together. She is a devoted, loving mother, and her sons are bright, kind, funny, and resilient kids who contribute positively to their schools and church community.
Ada is also a newly single mom, navigating the aftermath of repeated medical crises while doing everything in her power to keep her family stable.
I can personally vouch for this family, whom I have known since they first moved to Seattle. They are wonderful people — deeply rooted in their community — who have been hit with one crisis after another. What they need right now is a reset: the chance to move into a safe, clean home where healing — physical and emotional — can finally take priority.
How the $10,000 will be used
Funds raised will go directly toward:
- Moving costs
- First and last month’s rent and security deposit
- Replacing essential furniture and household items lost due to infestation
- Repairing the broken window
- Basic household needs during the transition
Any amount helps. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser means just as much.
Thank you for helping Ada and her boys take a step toward safety, stability, and some much-needed peace.
