A Run of Tragedy and Tears

Hi, my name is Lisa and I am raising funds for my co-worker, Jenny who just lost everything in a house fire on 11/13/23.

Here is a short backstory. Jenny and her two sons, Guillermo and Pedro, moved to NJ from Puerto Rico after being displaced from Hurricane Katrina 18 years ago. She humbly lived in a small apartment in Moorestown, NJ, where she worked long hours as a single mom taking care of her two boys.

A few months ago, chaos began to unfold for Jenny. Her apartment needed renovations, so her and Pedro had to relocate to another unit for the duration of the renovations. At the same time, Guillermo, who moved back to PR, was in a terrible car accident. Jenny had to take a month off of work to be by his side in the ICU. Mid-October, Jenny came back to NJ, and her and Pedro were able to move back into their original apartment. Unbeknownst to Jenny, Pedro had been saving to completely update their furniture as well, to help symbolize new beginning for his mother and match the renovations. On Monday, November 13, around 9am, a fire broke out in their apartment while Jenny and Pedro were both at work. They weren’t even fully unpacked when this tragedy stuck, burning everything but the tree Pedro so proudly decorated for his mother. To add insult to injury, Jenny doesn’t have renters insurance because she was advised by her landlord not to, saying, “the building itself is insured so you don’t need additional insurance.” Jenny isn’t one to cause trouble or go again authority so she trusted management.

If there ever was a family in need, it would be this family. Jenny and her sons are humble and hard working, and bashfully are asking the community for help to get them back on their feet. Besides needing clothes, furniture, and food, this family will also need funds to move into a new home. Any bit will help, especially during this holiday season.
