A Rough Life
Pet Patrol is an entirely volunteer-run, non-profit cat rescue organization in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. All our cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and any health concerns are addressed before they are available for adoption. Please visit our website for more information about our charity. www.petpatrol.ca
I am Mister, and this is my story:
I have always been called Mister, like "hey Mister!" and I am described by my vet as "an amazingly happy go lucky cat even though he has been through some of the worst situations for a feline." Life has been pretty tough for me, but I have always had people around me and never lived on the street. Originally, I was taken into a house that had a lot of sketchy people living there, and there was funny smelling smoke and needles lying around (drug house). I didn't like it there, but I was a good kitty and friendly with everyone. A nice girl snuck me out of the house one day, and she took me home. I lived with her and her children for quite some time, but there were a lot of loud voices and she didn't seem happy. She loved me though. Then I was quickly taken from the house because she was going to live in a shelter, and eventually I was dropped off at Pet Patrol. I was not in good shape. Vet noted: “Mister has fleas and is missing a lot of fur on his hind end, has ear mites and worms as well. He is under weight, has tartar on his teeth, his left ear has a hematoma and he is not neutered. Most alarming observations, he has a urinary tract blockage." My bladder was huge! So here I am at the vet clinic, hooked up to IV fluids to flush out my bladder so hopefully I can pee properly. I've had x-rays, been sedated and had a tube in my peepee to help me pass the urine. I have pain meds so that I am comfortable; but here is the dilemma. The cost! Because I am not passing enough urine I am considered to still be mostly blocked. The treatment is lengthy and if not successful, two choices. Euthanasia or a very expensive surgery =$1700 - $2000 for a kitty they just met! Pet Patrol wants to do everything possible for each cat coming into their care. They don’t give up easily and run fundraising events like GoFundMe to save lives like mine. A little bit goes a long way and because they say cats have nine lives, I have many more ahead of me yet. (Puuuurrrrrr)
