A Roof Over Their heads...

"A roof over your head". A simple and important necessity in life. As human beings we need shelter to survive. Many people in the Bahamas today are struggling with the basics for survival like food, water and shelter, thanks to the recent destruction caused by Hurricane Matthew.
My name is Rich Galasso and I live in Palm City, Florida. I'm trying to help one family put a roof back over their heads that Hurricane Matthew literally stole!
Having lived through the ravages of many hurricanes in my life, I fully understand the helplessness and magnitude of the total devastation they cause. Luckily in this country we have products and services readily available, unlike a remote island in the Caribbean. When faced with a devastating situation,  the sense of what to do and where to begin is overwhelming! If any of you have experienced something like this, then you know exactly what I mean...
The family in need is the Evans family of Lowe Sound on Andros Island in the Bahamas, population 712. Sean Evans is a single parent raising and supporting his four children (Shawndero, Dominic, Roshawn, and Shawnae) by diving for lobster in season and carpentry when the fishery is closed. Needless to say, Sean is not financially in a position to rebuild his house, much less replace virtually everything his family has lost.
His story is a hard labor of love and one that he embraces diligently to offer his children a bright future and a better life, an endeavor every parent strives to achieve.
Myself, my wife Liz, and two young daughters, Emma and Nicole, met Sean on a recent trip to a remote section of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas. Sean welcomed us and helped us secure safe moorings on a particularly rough and gloomy night in a place that was not well traveled. His sense of selflessness was immediately evident and the hospitality he demonstrated to us was very much appreciated. It's comforting to know how wonderful people can be when you are far from home and in a potentially dangerous situation.
Thanks to our chance encounter, Sean and I have become friends, and I want to try and help not only my friend, but a good family in desperate need.
I'm trying to raise a total of $6,000 to purchase the materials so Sean can build his new roof (see the Home Depot estimate below) and recover the "shelter" aspect of basic survival. This doesn't include the cost to get the materials to Lowe Sound, Bahamas. It also doesn't feed his family or replace the many things he's lost, but it is an important start to rebuilding his life and the lives of his family.
I know GoFundMe isn't about reaching thousands of people but more about reaching a few hundred of your closest friends, family, associates, and coworkers. So chances are that if you are reading this you know me or my family or the Evans family or someone who knows us. So please be as generous as you can since this select group is all that can or will be able to help. 600 donations of $10 or 60 Donations of $100. That's the reality of the math to get to this simple but important goal.
I'm no marketer or professional fundraiser. I'm just somebody trying to do the right thing and help a fellow human being in need. And I'm counting on the character, kindness, generosity, and decency of all of you that this note reaches. I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't believe in those qualities amongst all of you. $10 is a brown bag lunch tomorrow at work. $100 is a dinner and a movie or a Saturday night out on the town. A small concession or sacrifice to help a cause and to touch peoples' lives in a real and meaningful way.
-I will be using the funds raised to purchase the goods listed on the quote shown below from Home Depot ($6,000) and cover the approximate $2200 in freight to ship it to North Andros Island Bahamas.

Don't give till it hurts but rather give till it feels good! A family we know is counting on us for help.
Thank you for your help! I know you won't let us fail.
Sincerely,
The Galasso's and the Evan's
