My name is Katie Dawn. If we’ve met, it is likely you have listened to one of my stories. Chances are great that one of those featured a bicycle. These are as much me as my name. So here, I offer a story of a quest! A pursuit for meaning in life! It begins with a clue I’ve come across, “bliss flowers upon the path of adventure.”

Seeking this delight, I shall navigate down the arduous latitudes from the North Slope of Alaska, well above the arctic circle, down into the temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska. My purpose, to share the spoils of my escapade in hopes of raising awareness for Alaska’s environmental landscape.

I am working with Alaska Wilderness League who has offered me a $2,500 grant in my adventure. I have asked them to help me recognize areas, both physically and politically that may offer folks some insight into what is at stake for our lands. If you have seen a photo I have posted you will know the land here is inspiring and the environment formidable. This is the most daunting trip I have contemplated on a bicycle. The route begins in Deadhorse, Alaska on July 7th and is planned to end in Skagway, Alaska on August 2nd, This will be a 26 day adventure covering over a thousand miles.

I am asking for help for a couple reasons. The greatest is the sense of accountability it gives me to be riding for a purpose and for people beyond myself. This provides phenomenal motivation for me to think beyond the ‘in the moment challenges’ I may face. Another is that people have asked me if they can. In gratitude to this gesture, I want to acknowledge the fantastic help this would provide me and appreciate the kindness offered. Although this is a solo ride, every quest in life is composed of a supporting cast and each story a participating audience. I want you to be part of the adventure. For me, this is what a healthy life looks like, including your friends in accomplishing your dreams. This gives meaning to my life.
