On the Fourth of July, our family experienced a tragedy that no one could have imagined. While celebrating the holiday, my father-in-law lost his life after a firework exploded, causing a devastating injury. In an instant, our lives were changed forever.

My father-in-law was the kind of person everyone could count on. No matter what challenge someone was facing, he always found a solution. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, whether it was family, friends, neighbors, or even someone he had just met. His generosity, kindness, and willingness to put others before himself are what made him such an incredible man.

Above all, he loved his family. He worked hard to provide for them, protected them, and made sure they always knew they were loved. He was the strength of our family, and his absence has left a pain that words cannot describe.

As an active-duty United States Marine, it is incredibly difficult to watch my family go through this heartbreaking loss while trying to support them in every way I can. Right now, our focus should be on grieving, remembering the amazing man he was, and being there for one another—not worrying about the overwhelming financial burden that comes with laying a loved one to rest.
