A Rare Ask for Support!

Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, Winnipeg, is a centre for spirituality and the arts, providing support and enrichment to children and families, to seniors and the visual and performing arts community. We are open-minded, open-hearted and open spiritually. We care deeply about our neighbourhood and the world around us.

We belong to the United Church of Canada and have served the Fort Rouge neighbourhood for more than 130 years. At our foundation is community service, rather than recruitment. This allows us to support the efforts and ideas of our congregation and the community at large, for the benefit of all.

Utility costs have risen sharply and unexpectedly in the last year, and the effects of the pandemic continue to impact our programs. CFR has been diligent over the years about fiscal management, nevertheless we experienced a 2022 deficit of $15,000.00. Without your help, we are at risk of continuing that deficit position into 2023. This is why we are reaching out in this way for the first time.

Our historic building is much more than a place of worship. It is a community centre, day care, rehearsal hall and performance venue, used 25% by CFR’s congregation, 25% by paid rentals and 50% for valuable community and arts activities which are only able to exist because CFR subsidizes them with space usage and support services. Many arts organizations came through the worst of the COVID restrictions intact because our facility had ample sufficient space for them to rehearse and record safely.

We are asking our partners, our networks and others to contribute to our financial well-being so that we can continue the work which we know is important to our community. Our goal is to raise $10,000.00, which will go towards the significant utility costs of maintaining our facility.
